What are IP Ratings
IP stands for "Ingress Protection". It is a measurement of protection against solid objects (dust and dirt) and liquids.
The IP rating is consists of 2 numbers. The first number indicates the level of protection against solid objects while the second number indicates the level of protection against against liquids.
All LED Strip Lights have an IP Rating. Our products are either IP20, IP65, IP67 or IP 68.
IP20 - Dustproof
The 2 stands for protection against solid objects over 12mm so for example this would be fingers.
The 0 stands for no protection from liquids at all.
An example of where you would use this IP rated strip light would be in a dry indoor environment so, Cabient Lighting, Shelf Lighting and for in Ceiling Coffers. The reasons for this is because it is dry and not likely to come into contact with any water.
IP65 - Splashproof
The 6 stands for Total protected against dust.
The 5 stands for Protection against low pressure jets of water form all different angles and directions.
An example of where you would use this strip Light would be under Cupboards in the kitchen where it would be exposed to steam from the kettle and potentially getting splashed.
IP67 - Waterproof
The 6 stands for Totally protected against dust.
The 7 stands for protected against temporary submersion.
The test for this is between 15cm and 1m and of a duration of 30 minutes. An Example of where this Strip Light would be used would be in an outdoor environment where it is likely to get wet, so around perimeters of buildings.
IP68 - Waterproof
The 6 stands for Totally protected against dust.
The 8 stands for Protected against long periods of submersion.
An Example of where this Strip Light would be used could be a water feature, for example a fountain outside where the Strip Light would be constantly hit with water and potentially get submerged.
