LED Colour
Temperature
Explained
Light does more than illuminate. It changes how a space feels. Discover the shades of white, explore a world of colour and find the right LED lighting for your project.

of Feeling.
What Is CCT?
Correlated Colour Temperature (CCT) describes the appearance of white light, measured in kelvin (K). Whether it comes from an LED or another source, white light can have a warmer or cooler tint.
Lower values around 2700–3000K create a cosy, amber-toned atmosphere. Midrange values around 3500–4000K give a balanced, neutral white. Higher values around 5000–6500K have a cooler, daylight-like appearance for task and display lighting.
The Kelvin Scale
Lower kelvin feels warmer. Higher kelvin feels cooler.

What Is RGB Colour Changing?
RGB LEDs combine red, green and blue diodes in a single fixture. Adjusting the intensity of each creates a wide palette of colours and dynamic effects, from subtle pastels to vivid neons. Use colour to set a scene, highlight a feature or give a space its own identity.

Start With the
Feeling You Want.
Choose the light first, then the format. A relaxing room, a practical workspace and an expressive feature each ask something different of your lighting.
For Everyday White Light
Choose a fixed colour temperature if you know the look you want. Choose adjustable CCT lighting when you want to move between warm and cool white.
For Colour and Atmosphere
Choose RGB for colour-changing accents and effects. Consider RGBW when your design also needs a dedicated, fixed white light.
For the Best of Both
Choose RGB+CCT for colour and adjustable white in the same system. Check that your controller supports all the channels your lighting needs.
Your Lighting
Questions, Answered.
Does a Higher Kelvin Value Mean Brighter Light?
No. Kelvin describes the colour appearance of white light. Light output is measured in lumens. Compare lumen ratings when choosing brightness; use kelvin to choose the warmth or coolness of the light.
What Is the Difference Between CCT and Tunable White?
CCT is the colour temperature of a white light source. A fixed-white LED has a specified CCT. Tunable white, often sold as adjustable CCT lighting, lets you vary the colour temperature within the product’s stated range using a compatible controller.
Is 4000K Warm White or Cool White?
Around 4000K is commonly described as neutral white. Names such as daylight, white and cool white vary between ranges, so compare the kelvin value on the product specification rather than relying on the name alone.
Can RGB Lighting Produce White Light?
RGB can mix red, green and blue to create a white-like appearance. For dedicated white lighting, consider RGBW or RGB+CCT. RGBW includes a white channel, while RGB+CCT adds adjustable warm-to-cool white.
Which Colour Temperature Should I Choose?
Think about the setting and the atmosphere you want. Warm white is a common choice for relaxed interiors; neutral white offers a balanced appearance for everyday tasks; cooler white can suit task and display areas. Test a sample in the actual space when colour appearance is important.
