Sunricher DMX Decoder

Sunricher DMX Decoder

Decoders DMX from our brilliant Sunricher range are devices that convert a DMX signal to PWM. This will enable effortless control over LEDs such as LED strip lights, from one unit such as DMX wall panels.

Dmx 512 is a lighting standard often utilised for production lighting as multiple fixtures can be controlled from one control unit. DMX or digital multiplex can be installed on your computer or laptop in the form of a program to control your DMX devices.

Some decoders are also RDM compatible. RDM decoder settings can be adjusted from a DMX512 RDM controller. RDM or Remote Device Management allows two-way protocols from the device to the controller.

In DMX, the number 512 corresponds to the number of DMX channels that are available on a DMX device. A single colour LED strip will take up one DMX address, an RGBW colour-changing tape will take up four DMX addresses, one address for each colour.

A DMX 512 signal decoder setup is easy, the units have an interface that can be in the form of dip switches or control buttons and a digital display.

What is a DMX Decoder?

A DMX decoder is a lighting control product used to decode a DMX control signal supplied by a controller. The decoder sits between an LED driver and the lighting product it is powering to control its output.

Once the signal is received the decoder will then translate it and alter the PWM frequency of relevant colour channels. By altering the PWM frequency the decoder is able to control colour and brightness of lighting products. By assigning a DMX address to a decoder each device can be found and controlled individually or together.
