Are 24V LED strips Better Than 12V LED strips

Low voltage LED strips are often used in professional lighting installs in both commercial and domestic projects. When specifying an LED strip the voltage is an important factor to take into account.

Both 12V and 24V LED strips can be made to the same quality with high specs like CRI and wattage. However, we are often asked as to whether 24V LED strips are better than 12V LED strips.

The voltage and wattage of an LED strip determine the current that that LED strip draws. For a 12V and 24V strip operating at the same wattage the current running through the 12V strip will be higher. Current is the rate of flow of charge and generally the higher the current the higher the strain on electrical components.

Because of this 24V products typically last longer than 12V products due to the fundamental way in which the product works. This is dependent on the quality and spec of the LED strip being used as quality may differ between brands.
