How does an RGB LED strip work?
Colour changing LED strips work by mixing different colours together to produce a final result. RGB LED strips use a 3 colour LED chip with a Red, Green and Blue channel similar to a TV pixel. By altering the power supplied to each of the three channels RGB LED controllers can moderate the brightness of each colour. This allows RGB LED strips to create specific colours when used with a compatible controller.
For example:
To generate a purple the red and blue channels would need to be turned up and the green turned off.
LED controllers are able to adjust the brightness of each colour by altering the PWM frequency supplied to each channel. By adjusting the brightness of each colour to certain values the controller is then able to set the LED strip to specific colours.
